ABSTRACT: The research examines career changes in the Paraná State Military Police (PMPR), focusing on the requirement of higher education as a prerequisite for entry and its impact on the quality of security services. It highlights the national trend of raising educational standards in security forces, reflecting legislative and educational changes in Brazil. The objective is to analyze how this requirement can enhance the effectiveness, professionalism, and public perception of the police. The study employs documentary and comparative analysis, considering data from states like Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina, which have already adopted this policy. Results suggest that higher education among police officers leads to more effective and ethical policing, improving service quality. The research also emphasizes the importance of a curriculum that combines theory and practice to prepare officers for real challenges. It concludes that more rigorous educational requirements, such as a law degree, not only elevate officers’ qualifications but also promote a more critical and responsible approach to law enforcement, boosting public trust and operational efficiency.
